The Amman Junior Asian Cup 2025 wrapped up on 23–24 August with two days of thrilling competition at the Princess Sumaya Hall. Organized by the Judo Union of Asia (JUA) in partnership with the Jordan Judo Federation, the event hosted 109 junior judoka from 13 nations representing four continents, including 79 men and 30 women.
The tournament saw Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina dominate the medal table. Hong Kong’s juniors impressed in the women’s categories, claiming four gold medals and underlining the territory’s emerging strength in women’s judo. Saudi Arabia’s men’s team delivered consistent performances across all weight categories, finishing with three gold medals and multiple podiums, while Bosnia and Herzegovina took three golds, including victories in the heavyweight categories.
Host nation Jordan once again displayed depth, earning one gold and multiple silver and bronze medals, cheered on by enthusiastic home supporters. Jordan’s performances across both men’s and women’s events demonstrated that their junior program is steadily producing athletes ready to challenge at the continental level.
The Junior Cup highlighted the increasingly competitive nature of Asian judo. A remarkable 96% of matches ended with scores, with 62% of victories achieved by direct ippon. Nearly 11% of bouts went into golden score, showing just how closely contested many of the matches were.
As with the cadet competition earlier in the week, the Junior Cup reinforced Amman’s role as a hub for Asian judo development. For many competitors, this event served as an important stepping stone toward the Asian Junior Championships and future IJF World Junior Tour events.
The JUA praised the efforts of the Jordan Judo Federation and local organizers, who successfully hosted back-to-back international tournaments, ensuring both athletes and spectators experienced the best of judo in Amman.
