The 2024 East Asian Judo Championships held in Wenzhou from September 26th to 28th showcased the power of sport to bring nations together in the spirit of competition and friendship. Hosted by the East Asian Judo Federation, the event was a testament to the region’s rich judo heritage and talent.
With 111 competitors representing 7 nations, the championships were a melting pot of diverse styles and techniques, creating an electrifying atmosphere for judo enthusiasts and supporters. Each match was a display of skill, determination, and respect for the judo tradition.
In the men’s division, athletes from Mongolia, Japan, China, and Korea delivered stellar performances, with champions crowned in various weight categories. Noteworthy victories included BYAMBASUREN Sukhbat, ODGEREL Uranbayar, ERDENEBAT Buyantsagaan, BAYARTSENGEL Khuderchuluun from Mongolia in the -60 kg, -73 kg, -81 kg and -100 kg class respectively; KIM, Chanwook from Korea at the -66kg class, AKIYAMA Daiki of Japan in the -90 kg division and LIU Yuhang from China at the +100 kg class showcasing the depth of talent in East Asian judo.
The women’s competition was equally thrilling, with judokas from Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, China, and Korea displaying exceptional skills and sportsmanship. Standout performances came from CHIU of Chinese Taipei in the -48 kg category, XU Aoyu, ZHANG Wen, PAN Wendi from China at the -52 kg, -63 kg, +78 kg class respectively;Â JUNG Nari and LEE Yunseon from Korea in the -57 kg and -78 kg class, as well as SARANTSETSEG of Mongolia in the -70 kg class, inspiring the next generation of female judo practitioners.
As the championships concluded, Mongolia emerged as a dominant force with 5 gold medals, underscoring the nation’s commitment to judo excellence. China, Korea, and Chinese Taipei also shone brightly with their medal haul, reflecting the region’s strong presence in the judo world.
