On the 13th of December 2024, JUA representatives were in attendance at the IJF Technical Seminar held in Istanbul, Türkiye, to actively participate in discussions surrounding the new refereeing rules announced by the International Judo Federation. The seminar, which attracted 326 participants from 79 countries, provided a platform for collaborative dialogue and knowledge-sharing among judo stakeholders.Â
Key figures from JUA, including Head Sports Director Mr. Che Kuong Hon, Head Referee Director Mr. Osako Akinobu, Referee Director Mr. Zhitkeyev Askhat, Mr. Abdrabalnabi Nabeel, and Executive Member Mr. Wong Po Kee, were present to contribute their insights and engage in the process of adapting rules to align with the evolving landscape of judo officiating.
During the opening remarks, Dr. Lisa Allan, IJF Secretary General, expressed gratitude to the Turkish Judo Federation for hosting the seminar and emphasized the importance of adapting rules to meet the expectations of new generations. The collaborative efforts of athletes, referees, coaches, and officials are essential in implementing these changes effectively and ensuring the continual progress of the sport.
The seminar provided a platform for sharing the new rule changes that will come into effect from 1st January 2025 until mid-June, following the World Championships Seniors.
As the judo community unites to enhance the sport’s standards and foster a dynamic future, the commitment and dedication of all stakeholders are essential in driving positive change and advancement in judo. The seminar provided a platform for judo stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in officiating and prepare for the upcoming Olympic cycle leading to Los Angeles 2028, emphasizing collaboration and a progressive approach towards the sport’s future.
